Meicoomon, who disappeared into the real world, is distortion itself--in possession of too much power, and a key to destroying the world... Hackmon, who appeared where Daigo Nishijima and Professor Mochizuki were, proceeds to reveal the truth: Homeostasis, which is trying to maintain the world's harmony, has now personally declared Meicoomon a danger for becoming too powerful, and is attempting to get rid of her.
The arrival of rampaging Meicoomon starts the countdown to the real world's collapse. A series of abnormal phenomena occur all over the place. The Digimon who appear through the distortions were waiting for this time to come...
The DigiDestined are cast out of the Digital World when it goes out of order, and even after returning to the real world, they're driven away by people on account of their accompanying partner Digimon. Finding themselves alone and unaided, they all desperately search for a way to fix the situation, while Meiko continues to agonize alone. Grief-stricken and bearing a burden that's just too big, she can't hear her friends and the Digimon calling out to her... Meanwhile, a cruel fate is imminent for Hikari Yagami, who has a more honest and sensitive spirit than anyone...
